After starting a career in the securities industry, Tanimoto worked as a financial and economic news anchor at Bloomberg TV before earning an MBA in the United States. Tanimoto later joined Nikkei CNBC as a news anchor and became the network’s first female commentator.

Over the course of a career in journalism and media, Tanimoto has interviewed more than 4,000 prominent leaders and public figures from around the world, including Audrey Tang, Taiwan’s former Digital Minister; former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair; and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Currently, Tanimoto appears regularly on television as an economic commentator, including as a regular commentator on TOKYO MX’s “Hori Jun Live Junction.” Tanimoto also frequently moderates economic and business symposiums and serves on a number of government and public-sector committees.

In addition to media and public-sector roles, Tanimoto serves in executive and advisory positions across several companies.

Tanimoto joined Forbes JAPAN in February 2016 and has held the current position since January 1, 2022.
