The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present its 10th Annual Sohn Virtual Hong Kong Investment Leaders Conference in September 2022. Every year, the Sohn Hong Kong event supports the Foundation’s fight against gynaecological cancer by promoting research, education, prevention and optimal treatment in the field.

 As one of the most coveted events of the year, Sohn Hong Kong features the brightest minds of Asia’s leading investors, giving attendees unprecedented and valuable insights on markets and investment ideas. Paul Blumenthal, MD MPH

Keynote speaker Professor Obstetrics & Gynecology, Emeritus, Stanford University

Paul D. Blumenthal, MD, MPH is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emeritus, at Stanford University. He directed the Stanford University Gynecology service from 2009 to 2021 and currently directs SPIRES, the Stanford Program for International Reproductive Education and Services, an initiative providing technical assistance and training to reproductive health programs in a wide variety of countries across Africa, Asia, and Central America. For over 35 years, Dr. Blumenthal has been an advisor to multiple international agencies such as Gynuity Health Projects, Ipas, Pathfinder, Family Health International, Path, Jhpiego, PSI, and the World Health Organization and served as the Special Advisor to Minister of Health and Family Planning of the Republic of Madagascar. Dr. Blumenthal is currently involved in studies of menstrual blood for diagnostic utility, post partum IUD insertion, artificial intelligence for colposcopy. simplification of both medical abortion regimens and contraceptive delivery systems, and has explored “single-visit” approaches to cervical cancer prevention for over 25 years. He is an author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications involving collaborations from over 20 countries. Dr. Blumenthal is committed to the development and implementation of innovative approaches to reproductive health issues in both the domestic and international arenas. Blumenthal also teaches a course called Perspectives on the Abortion Experience in Western Fiction to undergraduate students at Stanford University.

Seth H. Fischer

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Oasis Management

Seth H. Fischer is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Oasis Management, an international investment manager that invests globally across capital structures. Mr. Fischer founded Oasis in 2002 following a successful seven-year career at Highbridge Capital Management, where he managed the firm’s Asian investment portfolio. Prior to joining Highbridge, Mr. Fischer served in the Israel Defense Forces. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yeshiva University in 1993. He is a Board Member of the Karen Leung Foundation and the Carmel School in Hong Kong, and Vice Chairman of the Ohel Leah Synagogue Management Committee in Hong Kong.

Nishchay Goel

Founder, Duro Capital

Nishchay Goel is the founder of Duro Capital, a fundamental research driven equity manager with a focus on India. Prior to founding Duro Capital in September 2018, Nishchay was a Managing Director at Mousse Partners Limited, a New York-headquartered single-family office, where he ran the India investment platform across asset classes from 2009 to 2018. Previously, Nishchay served as Managing Director at Northsound Capital, an equity long/short hedge fund. He was part of the Private Equity group at Mousse Partners Limited between 2001 and 2004, and started his career in 1999 at Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York in the Investment Banking Division. Nishchay graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tulane University with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Economics, and received an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Gabriel Grego

Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer, Quintessential Capital Management

Gabriel Grego is the managing partner and CIO of Quintessential Capital Management (QCM), a long/short equity fund based in New York City. Quintessential focuses on value and activist short investing and has built an impressive track record in identifying, investigating and exposing fraud and other corporate malfeasance. Among its notable successes, Quintessential shorted and exposed the notorious “Globo Plc”, "Folli Follie” and "Bio-on”: these companies were confirmed frauds and delisted within days of QCM report. QCM also exposed the Canadian cannabis company "Aphria", highlighting serious conflicts of interest within the board. The QCM campaign led to the resignations of three board members, including the CEO. Quintessential operates through a so-called “deep due diligence” approach, applying state-of-the-art investigative techniques to supplement its more traditional fundamental analysis.

Kevin Loo

Managing Director - Investment, IDEG Limited

Kevin is a Managing Director, Investments. He serves as the Head of Investment Insights and helps to lead the Executive Management team overseeing the firm's institutional asset management activities. Leveraging his deep industry contacts and over two decades of experience across traditional finance and digital assets, he works closely with the wider investment and technical development teams ensuring uncovered investment strategies are well supported and commercialized. Kevin was formerly the Head of Digital Asset Management and CIO of two proprietary digital asset hedge funds since late 2017. He has over 5 years of experience within the digital asset space, including being an early investor in Bitcoin since 2016. He has an established institutional Fixed Income track record of advising institutional clients, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, corporates and private bank asset allocator advisors. He has worked with the most internationally recognized asset management companies, including PIMCO, Fidelity International, BNP Paribas across London and Hong Kong. He has experience of asset allocation, debt capital markets, including Global Bonds, EM Debt and Asia Credit, FX markets and Venture Capital. Previously, he has been a mentor to the Cyberport Incubator Fund, helping start-ups with strategic and technology advisory. He has made various partner investments across blockchain, digital assets, e-Sports, FinTech, Fitness and Wellness and Technical Education, and other early-stage projects.

Rajesh Sachdeva

Founding Partner, Flowering Tree Investment Management

Rajesh Sachdeva founded FTIM ( Flowering Tree Investment Management Pte. Ltd.) in 2008, an Asian Equities focussed investment firm based in Singapore and manages the firm’s investment portfolio. From 2005 to 2008 he was a co-founder and partner at Sansar Capital, an Asian equity markets hedge fund adviser based in New York which at its peak managed in excess of $3 bn. For the first 11 years of his career, he focused on Asian investments both on the buy-side (as an investment analyst with Kingdon Capital and Alliance Capital) and on the sell-side, including as a director, Asian equity sales, for Citigroup Global Markets in New York. Rajesh received a post graduate degree in management from XLRI Institute of Management in 1993 (where he was a recipient of the Ram Awatar Chacha Gold Medal, awarded to the best student in Finance) and a BTech in mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi in 1991. Rajesh pursues a keen interest in Hindustani classical music and Bridge in his spare time. He is also an avid Jazz and Theater buff.

Aaron Stern

Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer, Converium Capital

Aaron Stern is a Managing Partner and the Chief Investment Officer of Converium Capital, a multi-strategy opportunistic investment manager headquartered in Montreal. Converium aims to deliver positive and uncorrelated returns regardless of macroeconomic conditions by investing in distressed and event-driven opportunities globally and across the capital structure. Prior to co-founding the firm, Aaron was a Partner and Managing Director at Fir Tree Partners, a multi-strategy investment firm founded by Jeffrey Tannenbaum. At Fir Tree, Aaron was responsible for distressed, special situations and event-driven investments globally where he successfully employed his contrarian idea selection in new areas for the firm, including sovereign and municipal debt, emerging markets and engagement opportunities in Europe and Asia. He most recently led an innovative restructuring of Puerto Rico’s Government Development Bank and a campaign to improve governance and shareholder returns at a recently privatized Japanese railway operator. Prior to Fir Tree, Aaron held investment roles at O.S.S. Capital Management and Millennium Management. Before Millennium, he was an investment banking analyst in Credit Suisse’s Leveraged Finance and Restructuring groups. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with a Major in Accounting from McGill University, where he is a Global Expert and guest lecturer.
