About the event

The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present the 4th Annual Next Wave Sohn Hong Kong. The Next Wave program component will give the next generation of younger emerging managers a forum to present their investment ideas in the same format as the main Sohn event. 

To address travel and social gathering restrictions the main sessions of the event will be fully accessible virtually via online stream. This year will also feature the usually separate Next Wave programme will commence at the beginning of the afternoon Main Stage proceedings.

Jeffrey Gao 高劍鋒

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, J-Stone Capital

Jeffrey Gao (高劍鋒) is the founder and CIO of J-Stone Capital, which mainly invests in China property sector (equity/bond) and its value-chain companies.He has over 15 years of experience in investment and research on property sector. Prior to founding the company at end-2019, Jeffrey was the Head of APAC and HK/China Property Research at Deutsche Bank. He began his career in 2006 in Shanghai and moved to Hong Kong in 2013. In 2018 and 2019, Jeffrey was consecutively ranked No.1 Top Earnings Estimator by Refinitiv (Thomson Reuters), for Real Estate Management & Development of Asia, and Real Estate of HK and China. He demonstrated records of picking small/mid cap property companies, which later became leading mid-large cap property developers. Jeffrey holds a master's degree in Finance and Investment from the University of Nottingham and a bachelor's degree in Economics from Zhejiang University. He is a CFA charterholder.

Hideki Kinuhata

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, SILQ Capital

Hideki Kinuhata is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of SILQ Capital, a Japan-focused, fundamental, long-short investment manager based in Tokyo. Before founding SILQ Capital, Mr. Kinuhata was a Partner at Goldman Sachs, where he had a 24-year career in investment management and trading. Mr. Kinuhata was Co-Chief Investment Manager for the Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (GSIP) Global Public Equity Portfolio from 2018. Prior to assuming this role, he was Co-Head of GSIP's Pan-Asia Portfolio, which he helped launch in 2008. He was also Co-Chief Investment Officer of the GSIP Pan-Asia fund, Oryza Capital, which launched in 2013. Before joining GSIP, he was a member of the Goldman Sachs Principal Strategies Group (GSPS). He joined GSPS in 2003 and led the group managing the Japan portfolio for three years from 2005. He started his career at Goldman Sachs in 1995, working as an equity and equity-derivatives trader.

Rebecca Xu

Partner, Picea Investment Management

Rebecca Xu is a partner of Picea Investment Management and the fund manager of Picea Oriental Fund, which is a China equity long/short fund focusing on “Secular Growth” and “Disruption” investment opportunities. Before she launched the Oriental Fund in 2019, she worked for Schroder Investment Management as a fund manager running HK / China strategy as well as Asia ex Japan strategy. Rebecca received a bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University and a master’s degree from University of Cambridge.

Krace Zhou

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, StillBrook Capital

Krace Zhou is the founding partner and Chief Investment Officer of StillBrook Capital, a Greater China Focused Absolute Return Long Only fund, headquartered in Hong Kong. Previously Krace was a 12-year veteran at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Managing Director and co-Portfolio Manager of MSIM’s multi-billion Asia Opportunity Fund. She graduated from the Peking University with a B.S. in Mathematics

Patrick Andersen

Partner, East Rock Capital

Patrick Andersen is a Partner at East Rock Capital. Previously Mr. Andersen worked at Luxor Capital, a special situations fund, where he covered Asian equity investments and event-driven investments in the U.S. Prior to Luxor, he worked at Putnam Investments as a high yield analyst. Mr. Andersen graduated from Williams College with a BA in Mathematics and Economics.

Shane Galie

Partner & Managing Director, CornerStone Partners, LLC

Shane Galie, CFA, is a Partner and Managing Director at CornerStone Partners, LLC with co-head responsibility for public equity and hedge fund investments. As a member of CornerStone’s Management Committee and Investment Committee, he is involved in all aspects of the investment process for CornerStone client assets (approximately $10.5 billion as of December 31, 2017). His prior experience includes work for the Dartmouth College Investment Office and for the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance.

Mitch Golden

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, KYNDLE Capital

Mitch Golden is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Kyndle Capital. He has over two decades of investment experience across public and private markets, asset classes and geographies. Prior to starting Kyndle, Mitch was the Portfolio Manager of Greenlight Masters, a multi-manager fund affiliate of Greenlight Capital, which he joined in January 2012. At Greenlight Masters, he managed a portfolio of hedge fund, SPV, and direct investments with peak AUM of $1.1 billion. Previously, Mitch held portfolio management and investment research roles at Senator Investment Group, Motu Capital and RH Capital. He also worked at private equity firm Oak Hill Capital and was a co-founder of Quova Inc., an Internet infrastructure company. He began his career as a financial analyst at Wolfensohn & Co., a boutique M&A advisory firm. Mitch serves on the Family Circle committee of the Robin Hood Foundation, the advisory council of Human Development Services of Westchester and on the advisory board of the Abaarso School of Science and Technology. He also serves on the advisory boards of several private investment firms. Mitch earned a B.A. with Honors and Distinction from Stanford University in 1994, and earned an M.B.A. with Honors from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

Tony Rettig

Partner, Winston Partners

Tony focuses on research for Winston’s funds. Prior to joining the firm in March 2011, Tony spent nearly five years as an Investment Analyst at Lane Five Capital Management, where he assisted in founding the firm and then focused on the research and selection of long and short equities for the firm’s funds. Prior to joining Lane Five, Tony was an Investment Analyst at another long/short equity firm, Matador Capital Management. He began his career in the Equity Research Department at Raymond James & Associates. Tony received an MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business, where he received a Faculty Award for Academic Excellence, and a BS from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Sophie Kamaruddin

Reporter, Bloomberg Televison

Sophie Kamaruddin is a reporter for Bloomberg Television. Based in Hong Kong, she tracks financial market developments and covers stories in the field. She has interviewed prominent newsmakers from across Asia, including Malaysian politician Anwar Ibrahim, former Malaysian trade minister Rafidah Aziz, Bank Mandiri CEO Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Philippine Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, AirAsia’s Tony Fernandes, former CIMB chairman Nazir Razak, and Alibaba’s Jack Ma. Previously, Sophie was anchor and editor for Bloomberg TV Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to starting her journalism career with CNBC in Singapore, she was with the CIMB Asean Research Institute, a think tank dedicated to regional capital market and economic integration. Sophie graduated from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
