The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present the Annual Next Wave Sohn Hong Kong. The Next Wave program is the emerging managers stage - an integral part of the conference to date.

Together with this year’s Co-Host‘s, we are proud to present a compelling and interesting speaker line-up.  The Next Wave programme will ring in the conference and the Main Stage proceedings will follow right after.

All proceeds from the conference will go to support both the Sohn Conference Foundation‘s and Karen Leung Foundation’s missions.

Mitchell Golden

Senior Managing Director, BXMA

Mitch Golden is a Senior Managing Director in Blackstone Multi-Asset Investing (BXMA). Mr. Golden focuses on portfolio development, manager selection and evaluation, and ongoing monitoring for global hedge fund equity strategies. Before joining Blackstone in 2022, Mr. Golden founded Kyndle Capital. Prior to founding Kyndle Capital, Mr. Golden was the Portfolio Manager of Greenlight Masters, a multi-manager fund affiliate of Greenlight Capital where he managed a portfolio of hedge fund, SPV, and direct investments. Mr. Golden held portfolio management and investment research roles at Senator Investment Group, Motu Capital and RH Capital. He also worked at private equity firm Oak Hill Capital and was a co-founder of Quova Inc., an Internet infrastructure company. Mr. Golden began his career as a financial analyst at Wolfensohn & Co., a boutique M&A advisory firm. Mr. Golden received a B.A. with Honors and Distinction from Stanford University in 1994 and earned an M.B.A. with Honors from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

Patrick Andersen

Partner, East Rock Capital

Patrick Andersen is a Partner at East Rock Capital. He has contributed to building East Rock’s current portfolio of managers, fostering multiple seed relationships and partnering with managers to help them hone their talent and develop new areas of expertise. Patrick previously worked at Luxor Capital and Putnam Investments. He graduated from Williams College with a BA in Mathematics and Economics. Patrick has run the New York City marathon for over two decades to raise money for Foyer Espoir Les Enfants, an orphanage and school in Haiti.

Shane Galie, CFA

Partner and MD, CornerStone Partners

Shane Galie, CFA, is a Partner and Managing Director at CornerStone Partners Capital Management, LLC with co-head responsibility for hedge fund and public equity investments. As a member of CornerStone’s Management Committee and Investment Committee, he is involved in all aspects of the investment process for CornerStone client assets (approximately $20.0 billion as of December 31, 2023). His prior experience includes work for the Dartmouth College Investment Office and for the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance.

Tony Rettig

Partner, Winston Partners

Tony joined Winston in March 2011 and has more than 20 years of investment experience. Tony, together with Jon Scanlon, is a portfolio manager of Winston’s two investment strategies. Prior to joining the firm, Tony spent nearly five years as an Investment Analyst at Lane Five Capital Management, where he assisted in founding the firm and then focused on the research and selection of long and short equities for the firm’s funds Prior to joining Lane Five, Tony was an Investment Analyst at another long/short equity firm, Matador Capital Management. He began his career in the Equity Research Department at Raymond James Associates. Tony received an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where he received a Faculty Award for Academic Excellence, and a BS from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Chao Wang

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, ForwardEdge Investment

Chao Wang is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of ForwardEdge Investment. Prior to founding ForwardEdge, Mr. Wang was a Partner at Dantai Capital from 2020 to 2022. He also worked for Tairen Capital and HSBC Global Asset Management from 2015 to 2019, with a focus on global TMT and China market. From 2009 to 2015, he worked as a sell side analyst mainly covering China internet sector at Nomura, BofA Merrill Lynch and MainFirst. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from Fudan University

Daniel Rupp

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Parkway Capital

Daniel Rupp is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Parkway Capital Limited, which he established in 2023. He grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, where his father was a Dean and Professor of English at Appalachian State University. Dan earned a double major in Chemistry & Spanish from The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill in 1998. He then spent two years with Peace Corps Cameroon, teaching high school math, and 3 years working in Hokkaido, Japan. Mr. Rupp received an MBA with Distinction in Statistics from the Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) in 2006. Prior to launching Parkway, Dan spent 17 years at Overlook Investments, a US$6 billion long-only fund also based in Hong Kong. At Overlook, Mr. Rupp was Research Director and worked closely with the Chief Investment Officer in all facets of portfolio management. Dan is a CFA charterholder, is on the Chancellor's Global Leadership Council for UNC, and is on the Greater China Board of Advisors for Yale SOM. Dan lives in Hong Kong with his wife and two young children.

Michel Zhang

Founding Partner & CIO, Peach Creek Capital

Michel is the founding partner and CIO of Peach Creek Capital. Peach Creek employes a fundamental research-intensive investment approach, with focus on global cyclical sectors. The team aims to identify dislocation in market valuation and underlying value of the business, and generate uncorrelated alpha for investors. Prior to founding Peach Creek, Michel was a Portfolio Manager at Viking Global and spent seven years covering cyclical sectors including semi-conductor, Asia industrials, and consumer discretionary. Prior to that, he spent two years with Bain Capital and two years with Bain & Company. He holds an MBA degree from Wharton School of Business, and a BS degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Wendy Chen

Founder & CIO, Sigmoid Capital

Wendy Chen is the CIO and portfolio manager for Sigmoid Capital. She has been in the Asia investing business for over 10 years. Prior to Sigmoid Capital, she was Head of Asia at Kingdon Capital, a New York based global long/short equity hedge fund, where she was responsible for the Asia portfolio from 2013 to 2021. Wendy started her career as an analyst at J.P Morgan Singapore. She spent 4 years in Singapore covering Asian companies across J.P Morgan and Morgan Stanley and developed a deep local network. Born and raised in Shanghai, Wendy is native in Mandarin and fluent in English. She has a bachelor's degree from Fudan University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
