The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present the 3rd Annual Next Wave Sohn Hong Kong. The Next Wave program component will give the next generation of younger emerging managers a forum to present their investment ideas in the same format as the main Sohn event. 

To address travel and social gathering restrictions the main sessions of the event will be fully accessible virtually via online stream. This year will also feature the usually separate Next Wave programme will commence at the beginning of the afternoon Main Stage proceedings.

Patrick Andersen

Partner, East Rock Capital

Patrick Andersen is a Partner at East Rock Capital. Previously Mr. Andersen worked at Luxor Capital, a special situations fund, where he covered Asian equity investments and event-driven investments in the U.S. Prior to Luxor, he worked at Putnam Investments as a high yield analyst. Mr. Andersen graduated from Williams College with a BA in Mathematics and Economics.

Shane Galie

Partner and Managing Director, CornerStone Partners, LLC

Shane Galie, CFA, is a Partner and Managing Director at CornerStone Partners, LLC with co-head responsibility for public equity and hedge fund investments. As a member of CornerStone’s Management Committee and Investment Committee, he is involved in all aspects of the investment process for CornerStone client assets (approximately $10.5 billion as of December 31, 2017). His prior experience includes work for the Dartmouth College Investment Office and for the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance.

Mitch Golden

Portfolio Manager, Greenlight Masters

Mitch Golden is the portfolio manager of Greenlight Masters, a New York-based investment management firm that allocates capital to value-oriented investment managers. Prior to joining Greenlight Masters, Mitch was a research consultant with Senator Investment Group, where he focused on equity, credit and special situation investments. Previously, Mitch was the founder and portfolio manager of Motu Capital Partners, a long/short equity hedge fund. Prior to founding Motu Capital Partners, Mitch served as the primary research analyst at RH Capital Associates, an opportunistic, global investment fund. Mitch began his career as a financial analyst at Wolfensohn & Co., a boutique M&A advisory firm. He then joined Oak Hill Capital, a private equity firm, and went on to be a co-founder of Quova, Inc., an Internet infrastructure company. Mitch serves on the Advisory Board for the Abaarso School of Science and Technology and is on the Advisory Council for Human Development Services of Westchester. He is also a member of the Robin Hood Family Circle in New York City. Mitch earned his BA, with Honors and Distinction, from Stanford University in 1994, and earned his MBA, with Honors, from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

Tony Rettig

Partner, Winston Partners

Tony focuses on research for Winston’s funds. Prior to joining the firm in March 2011, Tony spent nearly five years as an Investment Analyst at Lane Five Capital Management, where he assisted in founding the firm and then focused on the research and selection of long and short equities for the firm’s funds. Prior to joining Lane Five, Tony was an Investment Analyst at another long/short equity firm, Matador Capital Management. He began his career in the Equity Research Department at Raymond James & Associates. Tony received an MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business, where he received a Faculty Award for Academic Excellence, and a BS from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Charlie Chai

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, Hel Ved Capital Management Limited

Charlie Chai is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Hel Ved Capital Management Limited. Prior to founding Hel Ved Capital Management, he managed a technology investment mandate of US$15 billion at Fidelity Management & Research. His managed funds included Fidelity Select Technology Portfolio, Fidelity Advisor Technology Fund, Fidelity VIP Technology Fund together with the technology sleeves of several other Fidelity funds. Charlie has over 20 years of investment experience from Boston and Hong Kong, covering transportation, insurance and retail sectors as an analyst before focusing on technology. He also served as sector leader for technology. He moved to Asia in 2011 to spend more time on the technology sector within Asia. Charlie earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics & Economics with a minor in Computer Science from Dartmouth College in 1997.

Tony Minesuk

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Dimension Management

Tony Minesuk is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Dimension Management, an Asia-Pacific focused, fundamental equity investment management company that employs a bottom-up, research-intensive approach to security selection. Prior to founding Dimension, Tony was a Managing Director at Tybourne Capital Management in Hong Kong where he led and oversaw the firm’s investments across consumer and other related sectors. Tony was previously with Karsch Capital Management in New York where he managed the firm’s investments in the consumer sector. He started his career in mergers and acquisitions at Evercore Partners and Salomon Smith Barney in New York. Tony received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated magna cum laude, and a Master’s degree in Management from Stanford University.

Wanyi Yao

Founder, Apeiron Capital

Wanyi Yao was a portfolio manager at Investec Asset Management between Jan 2014 to Dec 2016. During her tenure at Investec, Wanyi launched and managed Investec’s All China Equity fund. In addition, Wanyi relocated from London to Hong Kong to set up its equity investment presence in the region. Prior to joining Investec, Wanyi was Investment Manager at Baillie Gifford between 2007 and Nov 2013. She worked both at UK equities and global equities teams. Wanyi worked closely with the Chief Investment Officer on a Global mandate – Long Term Global Growth Fund. In 2011, Wanyi relocated to Shanghai to set up Baillie Gifford’s first investment office overseas.

Anna Yu

Partner, Panview Capital

Anna has 14 years of experience working in the hedge fund industry investing in fundamental equities. She worked at GSIP during 2012-2015 as the primary analyst focusing on greater China. Previously she was a portfolio manager at Ecofin Limited, a London based hedge fund, responsible for a portfolio of equity investments in the energy, utility, infrastructure sectors in China. Prior to that she was an investment associate in the global equities team at Citadel Investment Group. Anna grew up in China. She graduated Magna cum Laude with a BA degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University and later obtained a MPhil degree in Politics from the University of Cambridge.

Sophie Kamaruddin

Reporter, Bloomberg Televison

Sophie Kamaruddin is a reporter for Bloomberg Television. Based in Hong Kong, she tracks financial market developments and covers stories in the field. She has interviewed prominent newsmakers from across Asia, including Malaysian politician Anwar Ibrahim, former Malaysian trade minister Rafidah Aziz, Bank Mandiri CEO Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Philippine Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, AirAsia’s Tony Fernandes, former CIMB chairman Nazir Razak, and Alibaba’s Jack Ma. Previously, Sophie was anchor and editor for Bloomberg TV Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to starting her journalism career with CNBC in Singapore, she was with the CIMB Asean Research Institute, a think tank dedicated to regional capital market and economic integration. Sophie graduated from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
