As the world focuses on fighting COVID-19, there is a fear of losing ground in the long fight against other diseases, such as cervical cancer, which is highly preventable. As people are suggested to stay home and adhere to social distancing, our face-to-face health talks have been suspended and instead, we hope to deliver key messages that enforce our mission during the pandemic by hosting this online Health Talk Series during the month of June.
The topical talks feature highly knowledgeable healthcare professionals from various sectors and cover the following themes:
Prevention and vaccines (week of June 15, 2020)
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a great impact on our lives. We are all curious about what will bring the pandemic to an end. Most of the professionals believe a vaccine could be the answer to this question. We have invited Dr. Mak Siu King, the Founder of the Vaccine Academy Hong Kong, to tell us why vaccines are a solution and how long it takes to develop vaccines and its challenges around implementation.

A new cervical screening test option – HPV self-testing (week of June 29, 2020)
The uptake rate for cervical cancer screening in Hong Kong is low, similar to other countries. Thus healthcare professionals are searching for an alternative approach of screening tests, which can increase the screening uptake rate. One of the possible approaches is the self-sampling test. So what is it? We have invited Dr. Brian Chung, a General Practitioner who focuses on preventative care, to give us more details and educate us.
