The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present the first Next Wave Sohn Hong Kong. The newly added ‘Next Wave’ program component will give the next generation of younger emerging managers a forum to present their investment ideas in the same format as the main Sohn event, but on a separate stage at Asia Society earlier in the day.

Patrick Andersen

Partner, East Rock Capital

Patrick Andersen is a Partner at East Rock Capital. Previously Mr. Andersen worked at Luxor Capital, a special situations fund, where he covered Asian equity investments and event-driven investments in the U.S. Prior to Luxor, he worked at Putnam Investments as a high yield analyst. Mr. Andersen graduated from Williams College with a BA in Mathematics and Economics.

James Ferguson

Principal and Head of Public Investments, Global Endowment Management

James Ferguson is a Principal and Head of Public Investments at Global Endowment Management. His primary responsibilities include research, selection, and ongoing monitoring of public equity and hedge fund managers, as well as selection and oversight of GEM’s internally-managed public investments. James joined Global Endowment Management in September of 2012, following six years at Childress Klein Properties, a leading private real estate developer in the Southeast. He holds a BA in Economics from Duke University and an MBA from Wake Forest University. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

Mitch Golden

Portfolio Manager, Greenlight Masters

Mitch Golden is the portfolio manager of Greenlight Masters, a New York-based investment management firm that allocates capital to value-oriented investment managers. Prior to joining Greenlight Masters, Mitch was a research consultant with Senator Investment Group, where he focused on equity, credit and special situation investments. Previously, Mitch was the founder and portfolio manager of Motu Capital Partners, a long/short equity hedge fund. Prior to founding Motu Capital Partners, Mitch served as the primary research analyst at RH Capital Associates, an opportunistic, global investment fund. Mitch began his career as a financial analyst at Wolfensohn & Co., a boutique M&A advisory firm. He then joined Oak Hill Capital, a private equity firm, and went on to be a co-founder of Quova, Inc., an Internet infrastructure company. Mitch serves on the Advisory Board for the Abaarso School of Science and Technology and is on the Advisory Council for Human Development Services of Westchester. He is also a member of the Robin Hood Family Circle in New York City. Mitch earned his BA, with Honors and Distinction, from Stanford University in 1994, and earned his MBA, with Honors, from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

Shane Galie

Partner and Managing Director, CornerStone Partners, LLC

Shane Galie, CFA, is a Partner and Managing Director at CornerStone Partners, LLC with co-head responsibility for public equity and hedge fund investments. As a member of CornerStone’s Management Committee and Investment Committee, he is involved in all aspects of the investment process for CornerStone client assets (approximately $10.5 billion as of December 31, 2017). His prior experience includes work for the Dartmouth College Investment Office and for the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. Shane graduated summa cum laude and University Valedictorian from James Madison University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance.

Aalap Mahadevia

Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager, Briarwood Chase Management

Aalap Mahadevia is the Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager of Briarwood Chase Management. Mr. Mahadevia’s background encompasses both significant global long-short equity investing experience at Tiger Consumer Management, Farallon Capital Management and Narragansett Asset Management as well as substantial private equity experience at Leucadia National. He is also a Co-founder and a Board Director of SumZero, the leading global buy-side analyst community. Mr. Mahadevia received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2009, graduated from Harvard College in 2003.

Chen Chen

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, Toona Tree Capital

Chen Chen is the founder and CIO of Toona Tree Capital. Prior to launching Toona Tree, he was a Partner at Eton Park’s Hong Kong office, spending 11 years with the firm from 2006 to 2017. Prior to Eton Park, he worked for Morgan Stanley and Warburg Pincus. Chen Chen grew up in Beijing, China. He graduated from London School of Economics with First Class Honours in Philosophy and Economics.

Danny Yung

Founder & Chief Investment Officer, TX Capital

Danny Yung is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of TX Capital, which manages a China equity fund since 2014. Danny has over 15 years of investing experience in Chinese markets. He was previously a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and business director at China Resources Holding. He was responsible for business strategy, corporate finance, and due diligence for various industries and sectors in China. Danny obtained his Bachelor degree in professional accountancy with first honour at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a CFA charter holder.

Jeff Zielinski

Chief Investment Officer, APTA Investments

Jeff Zielinski has been working at the intersection of Asia, TMT and finance for his entire career. From 2005 to 2015, he was with Goldman Sachs Principal Strategies (“GSPS”) and Azentus Capital (Asia GSPS spinoff) captaining investments in TMT and Greater China. At Goldman Sachs, he also represented GSPS Asia on the firm’s Asia Pacific Risk Committee. Jeff was a founding partner at Azentus when it was spun off from Goldman Sachs in 2011 due to the Volcker Rule. He invested across the major technology verticals including internet, e-commerce, semiconductors and hardware. Jeff started his career in 2000 at Morgan Stanley’s technology investment banking group in Hong Kong, working on transactions for many of Asia’s largest technology companies. From 2003 to 2005, he served as News Corp’s head of China business development based in Shanghai, responsible for investments and wireless services. Jeff graduated from Princeton University (Phi Beta Kappa) with a bachelor’s degree in 2000. He is a CFA charterholder, and is bilingual in Chinese and English.

Mohammed Ali-Reda

Chief Investment Officer, Darkhorse Capital Fund

Mr. Ali-Reda is a Senior Portfolio Manager at OP Investment Management responsible for managing the Darkhorse Capital Fund. He was recently Head of Consumer Investments at Asiya Investments in Hong Kong – a leading Middle East based company with US$ 1 billion in AUM. He was responsible for the firm’s public and private investments within the consumer sector across the Emerging Asian region. He was the top performing fund manager within the fundamental equities team and has a proven track record of consistently outperforming the market. Prior to Asiya Investments, he was an Associate Investment Manager at Gulf Bank Kuwait’s Strategic Investment department that was responsible for investing the Bank’s proprietary capital. Mohammed has been investing in Asia since 2007 and has spent approximately a decade in the investment industry. He graduated from Michigan State University with B.A. in Finance with honours. He is a CFA charter holder and a Board Member and Treasurer at the Kuwait CFA Society during the 2012 to 2014 term.

Rashmi Kwatra

Founder & Portfolio Manager, Sixteenth Street Capital

Rashmi Kwatra is the Founder of Sixteenth Street Capital and the Portfolio Manager of the Sixteenth Street Asian GEMS fund. The Sixteenth Street Asian GEMS strategy is focused on providing equity exposure to the highest growth Frontier and Emerging Asian markets. Though focused on public equities, Rashmi values a business as would a long-term private buyer. Rashmi was previously Partner at Prince Street Capital Management, a specialist in Frontier and Emerging markets. She was recently named one of 50 leading women in hedge funds globally by the Hedge Fund Journal. Rashmi holds a dual degree in Finance and Management from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated magna cum laude. She is a Thai national, of South and Southeast Asian descent, and speaks English, Thai, Hindi, and Punjabi.

Rawen Huang

Founder & Portfolio Manager, Petrel Capital

Mr. Rawen Huang is the Founder and Portfolio Manager of Petrel Capital. Before founding Petrel Capital in 2015, Mr. Huang worked for two Asia focused hedge funds in Hong Kong. At Oasis, Mr. Huang worked as an investment analyst and conducted deep-dive validation and accounting-focused research on listed Chinese companies. At Kilometre Capital, Mr. Huang conducted fundamental, bottoms-up research across multiple sectors. Mr. Huang started his finance career as an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley’s headquarters in New York. Mr. Huang graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Studies and received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School. Mr. Huang previously served as an independent non-executive director of Yingde Gases Group (2168 HK).
