About the event

The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present its annual Sohn Hong Kong Investment Leaders Conference on May 30, 2025 at the Asia Society. The conference brings together Asia’s leading investment managers and allocators for a day of insightful content and high-quality networking.

SohnHK is part of a series of global Sohn Conference Foundation events that gather the world’s most successful investors to learn from and connect with each other throughout the year. In addition to top-tier ‘Best Ideas’ presentations from the brightest minds in Asia and internationally, this year’s event will feature student representatives in the inaugural “Big Pitch” competition as well as the 2nd Annual Women Leadership Brunch (by invitation), plus much more high-quality programming.

Funds raised will directly benefit the work of the Karen Leung Foundation to support female healthcare initiatives in Hong Kong and beyond. Across the last 12 years, the event has raised over 30 Million to support the community.

Aalap Mahadevia

Founder & CIO, Briarwood Chase Management

Aalap Mahadevia is the Founder and CIO of BCM. Mr. Mahadevia’s background encompasses both significant global long-short equity investing experience at Tiger Consumer Management, Farallon Capital Management and Narragansett Asset Management as well as substantial private equity experience at Leucadia National. Mr. Mahadevia received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2009, graduated from Harvard College in 2003 and previously attended the Phillips Exeter Academy, Class of 1999.

James Smith

Founder & CIO, Palliser Capital

Prior to Founding Palliser Capital in 2021, James was the Head of Elliott’s Hong Kong office. James joined Elliott UK as an Analyst in 2001 where he focused on European investments before moving to Hong Kong and advancing to the roles of Portfolio Manager and Head of Office. Prior to joining Elliott, James gained a variety of experience at financial and start-up firms. He holds a BA (Hons) and MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.

Jay Kahn

Managing Partner, Flight Deck Capital

Jay Kahn launched Flight Deck in May 2021. Flight Deck is a fundamental long/short TMT crossover fund that invests in disruptive public and private companies across internet, software, and fintech globally. Prior to launching Flight Deck, Jay was a Partner at Light Street Capital from 2011-2020. At Light Street, Jay ran the firm’s internet, media, and consumer investments globally. In addition to managing Light Street’s public investments in these sectors, Jay also led or co-led 14 private deals across Light Street’s side pockets, SPVs, and later stage growth fund including: Unity, Uber, Lyft, Spotify, Pinterest, Everlane, Harry’s, Toast, EzCater, Madeira Madeira, SmartHR, and Slack. From 2006-2008, Jay was an Associate at Elevation Partners, where he evaluated late stage growth and buyout investments in internet, media, music, gaming, and sports. Prior to Elevation, Jay was a Senior Associate Consultant at L.E.K. Consulting from 2003 to 2006, where he advised on strategy, growth, and buyout deals in internet, media, and sports. Jay received an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, and a B.A. magna cum laude in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University in 2002.

Masaki Gotoh

CIO/CEO, TriVista Capital

Masaki is the CIO/CEO at TriVista Capital which he co-founded in 2019, based on the experiences of having worked under the same capacity as the portfolio manager and a member of the Investment Committee at Misaki Capital which he also co-founded in 2013. Prior to Misaki Capital, he was Portfolio Manager of the Asuka Value Up Fund at Asuka Asset Management (now Aizawa Asset Management), responsible for managing the Fund and the investment team. Before joining Asuka, he worked as an analyst at SPC Japan (Standard Pacific Capital LLC’s Japan Advisory) jointly responsible for long-short investments in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, as well as at Morgan Stanley Japan in International Proprietary Trading and Goldman Sachs Japan heading Asia-Pacific Derivatives and Trading Research bringing 25+ years of experience in finance. Masaki received his B.Eng in Computer Science from Cornell University and MBA from Northwestern University.

Seth Fischer

Founder & CIO, Oasis Management

Seth H. Fischer is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Oasis Management, an investment manager headquartered in Hong Kong that invests globally across capital structures. Mr. Fischer founded Oasis in 2002 following a seven-year career at Highbridge Capital Management, where he managed the firm’s Asian investment portfolio. A proponent of corporate governance reforms across Asia, he is a frequent speaker on economic and investment panels. Oasis is a signatory to Stewardship Codes in Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, and a Sustaining Donor to the Board Director Training Institute of Japan, as well as a member of the Japan Corporate Governance Network and the Asia Corporate Governance Association. Prior to joining Highbridge, Mr. Fischer served in the Israel Defense Forces. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yeshiva University in 1993. He is a Board Member of the Karen Leung Foundation and the Carmel School in Hong Kong, Vice Chairman of the Ohel Leah Synagogue Management Committee in Hong Kong, and co-founder of the Aumann-Fischer Center for Law, Economics, and Public Policy at Hebrew University opened in 2022.

Wanyi Yao

Founding Partner & CIO, Apeiron Capital Limited

Wanyi co-founded Apeiron Capital in 2017. Prior to founding Apeiron, Wanyi was portfolio manager at Investec Asset Management between Jan 2014 to Dec 2016. During her tenure at Investec, Wanyi launched and managed Investec's All China Equity fund in both Hong Kong and London. Before that, Wanyi was Investment Manager at Baillie Gifford between 2007 and Nov 2013. She worked both at UK equities and global equities teams. Wanyi worked closely with the Chief Investment Officer on a Global mandate - Long Term Global Growth Fund. In 2011, Wanyi relocated to Shanghai to set up Baillie Gifford's first investment office overseas. Wanyi graduated from University of Oxford with a BA Degree in Mathematics.

Damon Meng

CEO & CIO, Frontline Global Management

Damon is the CEO and CIO of Frontline Global Management. Frontline Global employs a fundamental research-intensive investment approach with a focus on multi-sector global equities. Prior to founding Frontline Global Management, Damon was a Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at YF Financial, where he managed a fundamental research-intensive multi-sector global equities strategy. Prior to that, he covered global equities as a Vice President at Greenwoods Asset Management and a Senior Analyst at Scopia Capital Management. He was formerly a member of the private equity investment team at Blackstone Inc. He holds an A.B in Economics cum laude from Harvard and an Honors Diploma from The Juilliard School.

Graham Rhodes

Founder & CIO, Longriver Investment Partners

Graham is the Founder and CIO of Longriver Investment Partners, a global value investing firm he launched in Hong Kong in 2023. Previously, he was Head of Research at Capital For Business Limited, a family office, where he advised the principal and managed a portfolio of global stocks and bonds. Longriver applies insights from Asia to uncover investment opportunities worldwide, reflecting Graham’s own career trajectory—from covering Chinese and Asian stocks to analyzing their global competitors, suppliers, and customers. The firm prioritizes proven business models, predictable cash flows, rational capital allocation, and a strong margin of safety. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Graham is committed to building a world-class investment practice in his hometown.

Jon Jhun

Managing Director, MY.Alpha Management

Jon Jhun is a Managing Director at MY.Alpha Management. He began his career investing in Korean companies at Goldman Sachs Investment Partners in 2011. In early 2015, Jon joined Wellington Management. At Wellington, Jon held different roles including contrarian investing across Asian TMT/consumer names, leading the Asia Consumer research team, and managing various Asia/Emerging Market portfolios while serving on the Hong Kong Management Committee. Jon joined MY. Alpha in June 2023 as the Head of Korea and Head of Global Technology, and is currently the portfolio manager of the new MY Korea Tactical fund.

Vaibhav Singh

Managing Partner, Panvira Management

Vaibhav is the Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Panvira Management, an India focused investment firm launching in 2025. Over the last fifteen years, he has lived & invested across the three biggest tech ecosystems - US, China & India. Previously, he led the Asia public equities coverage at Coatue Management and headed global internet coverage at Sylebra Capital. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.Com (H) from Shri Ram College of Commerce.

David Dredge

Chief Investment Officer, Convex Strategies

David has over 30 years experience of managing risk across global markets. Prior to launching Convex Strategies, David served as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Artradis Fund Management in Singapore, where he was responsible for the fixed income aspects of their volatility strategy. Earlier in his career, David built and ran Asian and Global EM trading businesses for RBS (ABN AMRO Group), Bankers Trust and Bank of America. David holds an MBA from University of California, Berkeley and Bachelor’s degree from University of Utah. He currently sits on the Monetary Authority of Singapore Markets Committee (SFEMC).

Nick Ferres

Chief Investment Officer, Vantage Point Asset Management

Prior to establishing VPAM, Nick was the Head of Multi Asset Solutions and Portfolio Manager for Multi Asset Funds at Eastspring Investments (Prudential PLC). Nick joined Eastspring (formerly Prudential Asset Management) in September 2007 as Investment Director and Portfolio Manager, Global Asset Allocation. From 2007 – 2016 Nick was Lead Portfolio Manager for the Prudential Hong Kong Life Funds while managing tactical asset allocation and providing strategic asset allocation oversight for Prudential subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. The assets grew from $20 to $60 billion over the period. Prior to joining Prudential in 2007, Nick was the Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager for Multi Assets at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in Australia. At GSAM, Nick managed the Multi Asset Funds. The flagship product of this range, Income Plus, was top performing over the five years during which Nick was lead manager. Nick holds a BA (Hons) in Economic History and Politics from Monash University, Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Economics, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance.
