Following a successful implementation of Project Teal’s Phase 1, KLF, together with Central Health Medical Practices, Christian Action and Roche Diagnostics continued their collaboration with Phase 2. During this part of the project, KLF supported and funded cervical cancer screening test, specifically co-testing for 172 women underprivileged women, aged 30 to 59. Co-testing, combines Pap smear and high-risk HPV tests, which help to detect cell changes and also the presence of high-risk HPV, is considered the new and convenient when it comes to cervical cancer prevention measures. If both results are negative, women do not need to be screened for up to five years, which gives women longer peace of mind than routine Pap smear tests.
In Phase 2, out of the 172 women we screened, we helped two women to detect abnormal cells before they could develop into cancer cells. Through early detection, we have aided their change of not developing cancer cells down the line.
All partners came together on September 3, 2018 to celebrate the success of Phase 1 and 2 and to announce Phase three which is planned for early 2019.
