As the first and only charity in Hong Kong solely devoted to women affected by gynaecological cancer, the Karen Leung Foundation (KLF) has conducted qualitative research to further understand the current situation and needs of gynaecological cancer patients in Hong Kong.

Therefore, the research identifies areas of improvement along the patient’s journey and provides recommendations to enhance patient-centered care for better health outcomes.

We are incredibly grateful to all the women, caregivers, NGOs and physicians, who took part in this study, for their time and openness in sharing their perspectives.

Key findings:

- There is low public awareness of the types of gynaecological cancers and their symptoms. Most women are unaware of the importance of regular gynaecological check-ups and screenings

- Although some NGOs support cancer patients in general, there is currently no gynaecological cancer focused help center

- Peer support is essential; especially during the time of diagnosis. However, few patients take advantage of support services given accessibility constrains

- Many survivors reported a negative impact on their sexuality and sexual function, both of which impact their spousal relationships
