The Karen Leung Foundation is proud to present our 7th Annual Sohn Hong Kong Investment Conference. The conference brings together Asia’s leading investors to support the fight against gynaecological and pediatric cancers by promoting research, education, prevention and optimal treatment.

The Sohn Conference Hong Kong, in partnership with the globally recognized Sohn Conference Foundation, is a must-attend event in Asia providing a forum for successful professional investors to present a market view or investment idea, allowing attendees such as sell and buy-side investment professionals, asset allocators, and private investors to gain valuable insights from leaders in the field. 

The half-day conference will have a great line-up of investment speakers, all experienced and successful investors who each will present a single investment idea or a market view to the Hong Kong audience.

All proceeds from the conference will go to support both the Sohn Conference Foundation’s and Karen Leung Foundation’s missions.

Soren Aandahl

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Blue Orca Capital

Soren Aandahl is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Blue Orca Capital, which he launched in 2018 to focus on global short activist investments. Formerly, Mr. Aandahl was the co-founder and director of research of Glaucus Research. Under Mr. Aandahl, Glaucus was ranked the #1 activist short seller in the world in 2016, measured by performance and overall market impact. From 2011 to 2018, Glaucus shared 28 short investment reports alerting investors to publicly available evidence indicating that a company had materially misrepresented its financial performance, had misappropriated money raised from investors or was otherwise overvalued. In multiple instances, management was charged with securities fraud and the subject companies were delisted. Mr. Aandahl is regularly featured in the Financial Times, New York Times, South China Morning Post, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal on various topics including corporate governance, financial fraud and short selling. Prior to Glaucus, Mr. Aandahl was a corporate attorney and clerked for the Honorable Judge Algenon L. Marbley of the Southern District Court of Ohio. Mr. Aandahl has a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA from the University of Chicago, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Sean H. Debow

Chief Investment Officer, Interlink Team-Swiss Asia

Sean Debow has over 25 years of Asia Pacific equity experience and oversees the Investment Process of the Interlink Asia Pacific Strategy. Prior to founding Interlink, Sean was the Portfolio Manager and Managing Director of Matchpoint Investment Management a firm he co-founded. At Matchpoint, Sean was responsible for fundamental soft-catalyst investments. Sean started his career in investment management in 1994 when he joined Merrill Lynch Asset Management (now BlackRock) in the Hong Kong Office. In 1999, Sean joined UBS and led the technology research team as Asia Pacific Tech Strategist. In 2005, Sean joined Olympus Capital in Hong Kong as a Research Director. In 2007 and 2008 Sean was the Hong Kong-based Asia Managing Director of Ivory Capital. Sean graduated from the Western University, in London Canada and is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Fellow Chartered Accountant and Fellow Chartered Public Accountant. Sean is the Vice Chairman of CPA Canada Hong Kong Chapter and is a Member of the Hong Kong International School Advancement Committee.

Seth H. Fischer

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Oasis Management

Seth Fischer is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Oasis Management, an Asia-focused multi-strategy investment group with a successful 15-year track record investing in all global markets across all capital structures. Prior to founding Oasis in 2002, Mr Fischer spent seven years at Highbridge Capital Management, where he managed the firm’s Asian investment portfolio. Mr Fischer served in the Israel Defense Forces after graduating from Yeshiva University, New York in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He is a Board Member of the Karen Leung Foundation, a Board Member of Carmel School in Hong Kong, and Vice Chairman of the Ohel Leah Synagogue Management Committee in Hong Kong.

Benjamin Fuchs

Chief Executive Officer & Chief Investment Officer, BFAM Partners

Benjamin Fuchs founded HK based BFAM Partners in 2012. He has been on the ground successfully investing in Asian markets since 1992 and has deep experience transacting across the corporate capital structure. From 2009-2012 he ran Nomura Principal Investments Asia and from 1995-2008 worked at Lehman Brothers Japan where he built the Global Opportunities Group, a 65 person team. Benjamin started at Barings Securities, Osaka in 1992. Benjamin graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley with a BA in Economics & Near Eastern Studies in 1991. He has 4 amazing children and is an avid skier and Stand Up Paddler.

Gabriel Grego

Managing Partner and CIO, Quintessential Capital Management

Mr. Grego is the Managing Partner and CIO of Quintessential Capital Management (QCM), a long/short equity fund based in New York City. Quintessential focuses on value and activist short investing and has built an impressive track record in identifying, investigating and exposing fraud and other corporate malfeasance. Among its notable successes, Quintessential shorted and exposed the notorious “Globo Plc” and "Folli Follie", both companies were confirmed frauds and delisted within days of QCM report. More recently, QCM exposed the Canadian cannabis company "Aphria", highlighting serious conflicts on interest within the board. The QCM campaign led to the resignations of three board members, including the CEO. Quintessential operates through a so-called “deep due diligence” approach, applying state-of-the-art investigative techniques to supplement its more traditional fundamental analysis.

Eashwar Krishnan

Managing Partner, Tybourne Capital Management

Eashwar Viswanathan Krishnan is the Managing Partner of Tybourne Capital Management. Tybourne is a research-intensive fundamental investor in public and private equity markets globally with an Asian thematic bias. The firm is headquartered in Hong Kong with an office in San Francisco. Prior to founding Tybourne in 2012, Eashwar was a Managing Director and Senior Analyst at Lone Pine Capital (2000 – 2011) and an Analyst in the Principal Investment Area at Goldman Sachs (1998 – 2000). Eashwar earned degrees in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and Trinity College at the University of Cambridge. Eashwar and his wife Tzo Tze Ang are active supporters of cancer related research at the Francis Crick Institute in London and at the Cambridge Cancer Centre. They also serve on the Campaign Board of Cambridge University to help raise awareness and funds for these causes.

Ferheen Mahomed

Group General Counsel, Legal & Regulatory Compliance, HKEX

Ferheen Mahomed is currently Group General Counsel and a member of the Management Committee for Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. Prior to this, she was the Executive Vice President for the Pacific Century Group, the family office of a conglomerate having interests in property, hotel, telecoms, insurance and asset management. She was also Group General Counsel for CLSA Asia Pacific Markets after spending 14 years as Asia Pacific General Counsel for Societe Generale. Ferheen is both a UK and HK qualified lawyer having previously worked in Slaughter and May in HK and London. She is a law graduate from the University of Hong Kong and a Rhodes Scholar to St. John’s College Oxford, holding a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree from Oxford. Ferheen is heavily involved in the financial community and was a member of the product advisory committee of the SFC, member of the Asia Pacific legal and regulatory committee of ISDA and vice chairman of the banking and finance committee of the French chamber of commerce. Ferheen is also as a director of the Asian University for Women Support Foundation (Hong Kong) Limited. AUW’s goal is to ensure the long term sustainability of the University which provides education for under-privileged women from Asia.

Rajesh Sachdeva

Founding Partner, Flowering Tree Investment Management

Rajesh Sachdeva founded FTIM (Flowering Tree Investment Management Pte. Ltd.) in 2008, an Asian Equities focused investment firm based in Singapore and manages the firm’s investment portfolio. From 2005 to 2008 he was a co-founder and partner at Sansar Capital, an Asian equity markets hedge fund adviser based in New York which at its peak managed in excess of $3 bn. For the first 11 years of his career, he focused on Asian investments both on the buy-side (as an investment analyst with Kingdon Capital and Alliance Capital) and on the sell-side, including as a director, Asian equity sales, for Citigroup Global Markets in New York. Rajesh received a post graduate degree in management from XLRI Institute of Management in 1993 (where he was a recipient of the Ram Awatar Chacha Gold Medal, awarded to the best student in Finance) and a BTech in mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi in 1991. Rajesh pursues a keen interest in Hindustani classical music and Bridge in his spare time. He is also an avid Jazz and Theater buff.

Aaron Stern

Partner and Managing Director, Fir Tree Partners

Aaron Stern is a Partner and Managing Director at Fir Tree Partners, a multi-strategy value-oriented private investment firm founded in 1994. Mr. Stern focuses on managing the Firm’s distressed, special situations and event-driven investments outside the U.S. He has led many of Fir Tree’s restructuring and engagement initiatives in Europe, Asia and Puerto Rico. At Fir Tree, he has made investments across all asset classes in many of the world’s financial markets. Prior to joining Fir Tree, Mr. Stern held investment roles at O.S.S. Capital Management and Millennium Management. He began his career as an Analyst in Credit Suisse’s Leveraged Finance and Restructuring groups. Mr. Stern earned his Bachelor’s Degree from McGill University, where he is a Global Expert and frequent guest lecturer.

Masahiko Yamaguchi

Partner, Portfolio Manager, CEO, Asia, York Capital Management

Masahiko Yamaguchi joined York Capital Management in July 2007 and is a Shareholder and the Chief Executive Officer of York Capital Management Asia (HK) Advisors Limited. Masa is a Co-Portfolio Manager of the York Asian Opportunities and York Asian Event-Driven UCITS funds. Prior to joining York, he worked on event-driven, value and risk arbitrage investments across Asia at Citadel Investment Group, based in Tokyo. Previously, he worked as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in Tokyo. Masa received a B.A. from Keio University.
