Hong Kong Launches Women Wellness Satellites (WWS) to Boost Primary Healthcare Access

Awareness

Posted on 15 August, 2025

The Health Bureau (HHB) of Hong Kong is transforming women’s health services by integrating them into a new district-based network called Women Wellness Satellites (WWS). The satellites will operate under the Primary Healthcare Commission (PHC Commission) and connect with District Health Centres (DHCs) and DHC Expresses (DHCEs) across all 18 districts, offering prevention-focused, personalized care for eligible women.

KLF’s CEO visited the Chai Wan WWS, which officially opened on 12 June 2025, and is a highly modern facility! Also in attendance Legislative Council member Leung Hei, Eastern District Councilors, and women's health organizations who all support the development and promotion of women’s health services and encourage cross-sector collaboration.

Key Highlights:

•             Three WWSs will operate in Chai Wan, Lam Tin, and Tuen Mun ( the latter ones to be launched in September)

•             Women aged 64 or below can register at DHCs/DHCEs for assessments and referrals.

•             Existing Woman Health Centres and designated Maternal and Child Health Centres will stop accepting new appointments but continue serving current patients.

What’s New:

•             Dedicated nurse clinics and health education initiatives at DHCs/DHCEs.

•             Personalized services including breast and cervical cancer screenings, HPV vaccination, and tailored preventive care.

•             Co-payment model with government subsidies to encourage proactive health management.

•             Support for underprivileged women via new services at selected General Out-patient Clinics (GOPCs).

Why It Matters:

This initiative aligns with Hong Kong’s Primary Healthcare Blueprint and the 2024 Policy Address, aiming to create a family-centric, district-based healthcare system that reduces wait times, avoids service duplication, and empowers women to take charge of their health.

More so for girls born between 2004–2008 whose school doesn’t offer the government HPV programme or who have missed out, book the HPV catch-up vaccination at three HK island centers here: https://www.wws.org.hk. Women above 25 seeking a cervical check-up’s up please call your nearest District Health Centre to enroll: https://www.dhc.gov.hk/tc/dhc.html

The Karen Leung Foundation is wholeheartedly supporting this initiative, and we will let you know about the progress made in the near future.
