  • Experts to unveil investment ideas at 5th annual Sohn Conference Hong Kong
  • Conference will raise funds to fight against gynaecological and pediatric cancers

May 4, 2017 (Hong Kong) -- The annual Sohn Hong Kong investment conference, presented by the Karen Leung Foundation, will take place on June 7, 2017 at the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, Admiralty, Hong Kong.

The conference brings together sell and buy-side investment professionals, asset managers and private investors from across Asia and globally. This year, the speaker line-up features highly successful and experienced managers who will be presenting their exclusive investment ideas and market views. The proceeds from the conference will support the fight against gynaecological and pediatric cancers by promoting research, prevention, education and optimal treatment.

“The Sohn Conference Hong Kong is widely regarded as one of the most anticipated investment events in the world, largely due to the outstanding reputation of our speakers,” said Doug Hirsch, Co-Chair of the Sohn Conference Foundation. “Last year, the number of attendees at the Sohn Conference Hong Kong surpassed 350 – the most successful year so far. We look forward to continuing our commitment to support the Karen Leung Foundation in saving lives by reducing the impact of gynaecological and pediatric cancers.”
Since its inception, the Sohn Conference Hong Kong has raised close to HK$9 million. Last year’s proceeds funded Project Teal, a free screening program for low-income women in Hong Kong. It also financed public awareness programs and a school-based HPV vaccination program for young girls. This year’s proceeds will be channelled into a new program targeting mother & daughter needs.

About the Karen Leung Foundation:

The Karen Leung Foundation’s mission is to save lives by reducing the impact of gynaecological cancer. The Karen Leung Foundation works to raise awareness about gynaecological cancers, educate the local community to promote prevention and early detection, and ensure that women in treatment have access to optimal medical care. To achieve our objectives, the Karen Leung Foundation (KLF) collaborates with the local and international medical community, as well as other NGOs committed to improving women’s health.

The KLF was created by Karen’s loved ones to honour her life and fulfil her hopes for a better future for women, free from gynaecological cancer. Karen was 34 years old, newly engaged to be married, and had a promising career as an equity and derivatives trader at Oasis Hong Kong, when she was diagnosed with metastatic cervical cancer in November 2011 after experiencing symptoms of back pain and fatigue. The diagnosis was shocking and she fought courageously for nearly a year before passing away in October 2012, at 35 years old. In the days before she died, Karen expressed her wish to raise awareness among Hong Kong women and girls about gynaecological cancer to ensure that others have the information and resources to prevent cancer and access to the best medical care, if needed.
